Yes, we are in a deep freeze and that freeze is occurring sooner than expected. Last year, the Viviry Creek remained ice free well into December, and I was able to photograph Great Blue Herons, Mallards and other species of ducks foraging along its banks. My visit this afternoon confirmed what I expected. Most areas of the creek are frozen and ice is starting to form on Lac Des Deux Montagnes. It is too early to say whether the ice will remain, but it will have a significant impact on the bird species we see in our area. Today's photograph was taken at Jack Layton Park.
