In The Green

I was happy to see a Green Heron at the Taylor Bradbury trail this morning.

Unfortunately, there are fewer foraging areas for Green Herons along the trail this year. The two small beaver dams were removed last year. And the north pond at the Wellesley entrance was partially drained this spring.

Although quite small, these areas functioned as highly productive micro habitats. They supported a range of aquatic species and attracted birds such as Belted Kingfishers, Red-shouldered Hawks, Great Blue Herons and Green Herons.

Fortunately, the south pond at the east entrance remains. Today's Green Heron image was taken at the south pond.
