Last Bask?

Writer's picture: Don McCrackenDon McCracken

Today's sun was enough to coax this painted turtle onto the path at Cooper Marsh. Painted turtles bask for several reasons. It increases their body temperature so they can capture food more effectively. It also helps to control parasites such as leaches and prevents algae from growing on their shell. It might also be one last bask before a very long winter nap!
