In wildlife photography, backgrounds make or break images. Yes, there are situations where context is important. And wide angle images of subjects in their natural environments can be highly effective. However, in most cases, distracting backgrounds ruin otherwise powerful images. In the example below, I changed my position relative to the subject so I could include a natural background and avoid a distracting building. The result was a much more pleasing image. This Sharp-shinned Hawk was photographed yesterday at Auberge des Gallant.
